A solid pellet grill choice for someone who wants smoky flavor with app-based convenience, now that Weber has largely fixed the feeding problems from its first-generation SmokeFire.

Pros

  • Strong smoke flavor, color, and aroma — a real improvement over Weber's earlier SmokeFire pellet grills
  • Redesigned side-mounted hopper reduces pellet-feed jams compared to the older rear-hopper design
  • Weber has generally honored warranty replacements for defective units

Watch-outs

  • Not fully immune to pellet auger jams
  • A minority of units have shipped with inaccurate temperature sensors
  • Learning curve if switching from charcoal or gas
  • Few obvious weak spots for the money

Known niggles

  • Earlier pellet-hopper location issues (inherited from the SmokeFire) were mostly fixed by moving the hopper to the side, but at least one auger jam severe enough to bend the frame has been reported
  • Some units have shown temperature accuracy problems, reading 50-100°F off from actual grill temperature
