Kamado Joe

Classic Joe II

18-inch ceramic kamado grill adding a Kontrol Tower top vent and Air Lift hinge over the Series I, with 250 sq in of cooking space on a locking-wheel cart.

$1,500Approx. MSRP

A well-rounded, proven mid-tier kamado for a beginner who wants two-zone cooking and durability without paying for the newest SloRoller tech.

Pros

  • Fiberglass gasket seals much better and lasts far longer than the original felt gasket
  • Air Lift counterbalanced hinge makes the heavy ceramic lid easy to open one-handed
  • 2-tier Divide & Conquer system enables simultaneous direct/indirect cooking
  • Strong resale/secondhand value as a proven mid-tier kamado
  • Built to last (ceramic)

Watch-outs

  • Plastic HDPE side shelves feel cheaper than later cart upgrades
  • Ash pan design still prone to jamming
  • Stock thermometer needs calibration
  • Heavy and awkward to reposition once assembled

Known niggles

  • Ash pan can jam against the tapered base and become difficult to remove when full of debris
  • Stock dome thermometer can read well off from actual cooking temperature until calibrated
  • HDPE plastic side shelves feel less premium than later aluminum shelves and some owners replace them
