Keg 5000

An insulated double-walled steel charcoal kamado-style grill with a cast iron cooking grid and 635 sq in total cooking area.

$899Approx. MSRP

A strong all-round kamado alternative for someone who wants steel-build versatility instead of a ceramic egg, but check the lid seal carefully on arrival.

Pros

  • Praised by many owners as excellent for smoking, roasting, baking and searing in one kamado-style cooker
  • Thick ceramic-free steel double-wall construction retains heat well for most use cases
  • Versatile temperature range for both low-and-slow and high-heat searing
  • Ceramic holds heat and moisture — grill, smoke or bake

Watch-outs

  • Seal quality has reportedly regressed slightly from the earlier Keg 4000 model
  • Paint durability is a weak point for some owners
  • Some assembly/fit-and-finish inconsistencies reported
  • Charcoal means a learning curve vs push-button gas

Known niggles

  • Lid-to-kettle seal can be looser than the older 4000 model, letting more smoke/heat escape and making it hard to hold under 400°F on some units
  • Paint has faded and streaked within under two years for some owners
  • Ash container has been reported to not seat properly, requiring a DIY fix (washers) on at least one unit
  • Bottom air holes can clog with charcoal debris if overfilled, making relighting hard
