Only worth it for a beginner who wants auto-feed convenience and is prepared to troubleshoot a fussy fan and ash system; skip it if you want dependable, set-and-forget temperature control.

Known niggles

  • Fan/temperature-control logic reported broken by multiple owners — the fan shuts off at target temp and won't restart even as the temperature drops
  • Ash tray sits close to the coal hopper, so ash builds up on long cooks and can choke out the fire if not cleared regularly
  • Smoke leaks from where the lid meets the body and around the hopper despite gaskets
  • Wi-Fi app frequently fails to connect to or recognize the unit
