30-Inch Analog Electric Smoker - 2 Rack

Masterbuilt's smallest/cheapest current electric smoker, a 2-rack analog unit with an 1,800-watt heating element; currently listed as out of stock on Masterbuilt's site.

$129Approx. MSRP

A good cheap entry smoker for one or two people cooking small batches, not for anyone who regularly feeds a crowd.

Pros

  • Lowest-cost, most compact Masterbuilt electric smoker
  • No electronics to fail, simple analog control
  • Easy for a beginner to learn the basics of electric smoking on
  • Easy on the wallet ($129)

Watch-outs

  • Only 2 racks limits how much food you can cook per session
  • Same imprecise analog temperature control as the larger analog model
  • Cheap water pan rusts over time
  • Few obvious weak spots for the money

Known niggles

  • Same wild temperature swing reports as the 3-rack analog version, since it uses the same non-digital heating element and dial
  • Wood chips can smolder poorly without the high-then-low preheat technique
  • Thin water/chip pan corrodes and blackens quickly
