Venture Portable Gas Grill (CGG-750P)

A 20 lb portable single-burner propane grill with a 154 sq in cast-iron grate and a wooden lid that doubles as a cutting board.

$230Approx. MSRP

A likeable portable grill for camping and tailgating, but check the leg mounts are seated solidly and never leave it running unattended, given the reported leg-melting/tip-over issue.

Pros

  • Compact and genuinely portable with even heat distribution for its size
  • Porcelain-coated cast iron grates hold up well and clean easily
  • Wooden lid doubles as a cutting board, a nice practical touch
  • Easy on the wallet ($230)
  • Light enough to move or store

Watch-outs

  • Plastic leg-mount design is a real stability and fire-safety concern for some units
  • Not particularly rust-resistant if left out in wet conditions
  • Lid and grate don't pack away as neatly as some owners would like
  • Tight cooking area (154 sq in) — small batches

Known niggles

  • Plastic leg mounts have been reported to melt and cause the grill to tip over, in at least one case starting a fire after only a few uses
  • Shallow, curved drip pan is prone to grease spatter near the burner
