Char-Broil

Performance 5-Burner

The value 5-burner: a lot of grate for not a lot of money.

$399Approx. MSRP

Good for a family that wants a lot of cooking space on a mid-range budget, but skip it if you want something that feels solid and heavy-duty.

Pros

  • 5 burners plus a warming rack gives lots of room to cook multiple items at once
  • Independent testing found very good heat evenness and fast preheat
  • Enough space for a family or small gathering without stepping up to a huge grill
  • Easy on the wallet ($399)
  • Built to last (stainless steel)

Watch-outs

  • Body panels and shelves are thin, flexy metal that feels cheap for the price
  • Wheel axles are flimsy, so where you park it matters
  • Cooking grates fit snugly against the frame, making them noisy and harder to lift out for cleaning
  • Few obvious weak spots for the money

Known niggles

  • Screws working loose from the lid and burner shelf rusting reported by some owners
  • Units arriving with bent/dented panels from shipping
  • Uneven cooking spots and lower flame height compared to older Char-Broil models
